In a letter from Jonathon Reynolds and Liz Kendall sent to the TUC the Labour Government has officially stepped away from the previous Tories position that the Right To Strike is not protected by the ILO. It seems a welcome decision.
As the UK was the first country to sign and ratify Convention 87 in 1949 it remains bound by it.
Almost every government in the ILO has agreed that C87 protects the right to strike.
It is only the employers organisation represented at the ILO and a a small number rogue governments who argue to the contrary.
The issue will come before the International Court of Justice in The Hague in 2025.
The sad fact is that the Labour Government will not commit itself to a view that previous UK governments have expressed in the ILO over the last 75 years is truly appalling.
